Merriam Police Investigating Racist Campaign Fliers

MERRIAM, KAN - Most politicians are used to a little mud slinging, but an offensive political ad which uses a racial epithet is not only stirring controversy in the race for mayor in Merriam, Kansas, but it's also attracting the attention of police who say the flier is a violation of state law.
Police say that the person or group behind the flier, which directs the "N-word" to Merriam mayor Carl Wilkes and calls mayoral candidate and city councilman Dan Leap a "hippie," could face misdemeanor charges for not identifying themselves on the flier as specified by Kansas election law.
FOX 4's Tess Koppelman has the report from Merriam.
黒人候補者に対して、Not another nigger or some hippieと罵倒したパンフを配った者に対して、選管法違反である、として調査がはじまったという。たんなるニガーと言っただけでは、表現の自由があるから、保護されるが、今回のは、パンフのスポンサーが誰か明記したのかったのでカンサスの選挙法に違反し、ヘイトクライムの嫌疑もかかる、という。
市長といえば、日系人市長が人種差別的な嫌がらせを受けているという記事Confronting Racismや、黒人市長が人種差別的な嫌がらせを受けて、自認したという記事”a nigger： unworthy to govern over any white man” を紹介したことがある。
