U.S. regulators were justified in closing a probe into unintended acceleration of Toyota Motor Corp. (7203) vehicles without finding electronic causes, a National Academy of Sciences panel said while emphasizing it wasn’t ruling out such failures in the future.

鮮烈な暴力描写が話題を呼んだ「チェイサー」でデビューした韓国の新鋭、ナ・ホンジン監督の新作「哀（かな）しき獣」が公開中だ。中国の朝鮮族が置かれた過酷な状況を背景に、どん詰まりの男たちによる戦いを、圧倒的な迫力で描いている。
借金で苦しむ中国・朝鮮族自治州のタクシー運転手グナム（ハ・ジョンウ）は、地元を仕切る犬商人ミョン（キム・ユンソク）から、ソウルである人物を殺せば借金を帳消しにすると持ちかけられ、海を渡る。だが、決行直前に起きたハプニングの結果、すさまじい殺し合いに巻き込まれる。
朝鮮族の問題は以前から気になっていたと監督は言う。実際に朝鮮族や中国現地を取材し、貧困や社会崩壊の実態を知った。「出稼ぎに来る彼らは、犯罪に手を染めることも多い。故国を離れ、どのように傷つき、苦しみ、故郷へ戻るのかを描こうと思った。外国人労働者全般にいえる普遍的な物語でもある」
