野生動物が毎日食べても…１年半でセシウム半減
東京電力福島第一原発事故直後に野生動物に大量に取り込まれた放射性セシウム１３７の量は、動物が原発周辺の食物を摂取していても約１年半ごとに半減し、最初の５年間で８分の１以下になる可能性が高いことを大阪大学の中島裕夫助教が突き止めた。
原発周辺地域の野生動物や住民の内部被曝の状況などを知る手がかりになるもので、１７日、神戸市で開かれている日本放射線影響学会で発表した。
中島助教は、マウスに半減期が約３０年のセシウム１３７を含んだ水（体重１グラム当たり１キロ・ベクレル＝１匹当たり２８キロ・ベクレル）を一回だけ飲ませた後、時間経過とともに体内に残る量を調べた。
心臓や腎臓など大半の臓器では、摂取後すぐにピークを迎えたが、１週間後には２５分の１以下、２週間後には１２０分の１以下になった。

憲法では、婚姻について両性の合意のみに基づいて成立すると規定し、同性同士や内縁関係の夫婦に遺産相続を認めていない。病院での治療方針の決定や葬儀の仕切りといった場面でも性的マイノリティーが想定されておらず、パートナーの入院や死別の際、「看護したい」「財産を残したい」と考える人は少なくない。
熊本市の女性フリーライター（３８）には、３年前から交際するパートナーの女性（３２）がいる。東日本大震災をきっかけに、「この先、何があるか分からない」と、今春、福岡市内から、女性が両親と暮らしている熊本に移住した。
ただ、女性の両親は２人の関係を知らない。このため、「相手が事故や病気で病院に運ばれ、面会を拒否されたり、看取

福岡県内では２００７年、北九州市若松区の中橋優さん（３６）ら４人の行政書士が、書類作成業務などを代行する「レインボーサポートネット」を発足させた。
これまで寄せられた相談は全国から１０００件以上。年長者の戸籍に年少者を入れる養子縁組のほか、死亡後の財産管理などをパートナーに委任する公正証書遺言の作成などを代行している。熊本市の行政書士法人「ＷＩＴＨＮＥＳＳ」も、０５年から同様の支援に取り組んでいる。
ただ、中橋さんは「家族や周囲から認められていないケースが大半で、仮に遺言を作成しても相続の際にトラブルになる可能性はある」と言う。フランスやイギリス、米国では００年頃から、健康保険や年金などの社会保障を含め、同性同士でも婚姻した夫婦と同等の権利を認める制度が整備されつつある。
性的マイノリティーの権利に詳しい大島俊之弁護士（大阪弁護士会）は「４月に同性愛者であることを公言した男性２人が東京都の区議選に当選するなど少しずつ理解が深まっている。国内でも法整備に向けた議論を進めるべきだ」と話している。（手嶋由梨）

Neo-Nazi Killings Expose Broad German Xenophobia

The discovery of a neo-Nazi terror cell in Germany has many concerned about the country's reputation. With good reason. Racism and xenophobia have deep roots in German society -- and the vocabulary used to describe the right-wing extremist crime spree is telling.
Two months before the games kicked off, Halit Y. was murdered in his Internet café in the central German city of Kassel, executed with two shots to the head. Nobody at the time -- neither investigators, nor politicians nor journalists -- wanted to view the crime as a possibly extreme expression of xenophobia.
Y.'s killing was the ninth in a series of murders across Germany between 2000 and 2006 that had left no trace of its culprits. All of the victims were shop owners, eight of them of Turkish descent and one of them Greek. They included a tailor, a kiosk owner, a key cutter, a grocer and a flower seller. Only two of the victims operated doner kebab shops -- but the German media, SPIEGEL ONLINE included, dubbed them the "doner killings." Many have continued to use the term.
Virtually Unfathomable
The phrase "doner killing" is a sad indication of the degree of latent racism permeating German society. By calling the murder spree "doner killings," the victims are condescendingly dehumanized, as if they had no names or occupations. Imagine if it had been a series of murders involving primarily Italian victims. Would we have then called them the "spaghetti murders"? And imagine the uproar you would hear among German politicians and journalists were there a series of murders of German citizens in Turkey and people there called them the "potato murders" or the "sauerkraut killings"? It's virtually unfathomable.

According to a 2010 study by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, a think tank with ties to Germany's center-left Social Democrats (SPD), more than a third of Germans believe that the country is in "serious danger of being overrun by foreigners." A similar number also believes that, when the labor market gets tight, "foreigners should be sent back to their home countries," and that they many immigrants only came to Germany "to take advantage of the social welfare system."
In discussing the murders on Tuesday, Chancellor Angela Merkel said it is a " disgrace" for Germany. And she's right. But it's also a disgrace that her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is in a governing coalition with the Christian Social Union (CSU), its Bavarian sister party, whose leader Horst Seehofer exhorted his followers in March that: "We will defend ourselves against immigration into the German social system -- until the very last cartridge."
Language defines thought, and thought gives rise to deeds. That makes thoughtless words dangerous. We now know who killed the nine men with roots in Turkey and Greece: The murderers were Germans and they were driven by their hatred of foreigners. Let's call their deeds by the correct name.

Spokane Racist Had Terrorism Plans To Stop Obama Re-Election, Involved With Group That Practiced ‘Coon Hunting’
A white supremacist convicted last month of a gun charge related to a domestic terrorism plot has been indicted by a grand jury for an alleged identity theft scheme.
Wayde Lynn Kurt, 53, is accused of producing fraudulent identification cards for a “task” for which he had been preparing for years, according to a briefing federal prosecutors wrote for his gun trial last month.
Kurt likened the plan to the Oklahoma City bombing and said he would do everything in his power to stop President Obama from being reelected, prosecutors say.
Kurt said “he didn’t want innocent people to die but it was possible they would die,” according to the briefing. Kurt “stated that it would be an act of terrorism of the worst kind and would mean a death sentence if he was caught.”
Kurt wrote a letter to an FBI informant in May 2010 discussing the need to establish a white government based on the gold or silver standard, prosecutors say.

Multiracial: Are you black, white or what?

I passed a man I’d never met while walking to the metro the other day. “Buenos dias,” he said. “Como estas?”
I rolled my eyes. But I understood: I’m multiracial -- half black, a quarter Mexican and a quarter white. And, like many multiracial Americans, people always question me about my background. In college, a stranger approached at a bus stop and blurted out “What’s going on here? Are you black? Are you white? What?”
Talk to the hand.
I know I don’t owe anyone an explanation but I usually stutter something about being black and white (adding in the Mexican part really throws people off).

Roane County lawsuit claims 6 years of abuse in school
Shocking abuse allegations out of Roane County. One family says their son has been beaten almost daily by classmates, and teachers and principals not only knew about the violence, but ignored it.

KINGSTON, Tenn. (WVLT) -- "These people have their jobs, they're supposed to be there to protect your children and they aren't doing their job."
Melissa Hunka is talking about her son. His problems started in kindergarten.
Jonathan Holloman's classmates made him very aware he was different.
Jonathan is bi-racial. His skin color became a bullseye, and what started as verbal attacks have gotten violent.
Jonathan had two bladder surgeries because of beatings. He's been stabbed, had a rib broken and two surgeries for broken noses.
His mother Melissa Hunka has tried to stop the abuse but has gotten nowhere.
The family doctor even recommended a transfer because of his injuries, in a letter saying: "I feel it is the best thing for him to be relocated to another school."
Now Hunka filed a federal lawsuit against the school board, its Director, the principal of Walnut Hill Elementary and the county.
In it she says requests for parent teacher conferences were denied. The School Director told her she'd take the word "of my teachers or principal any day over the word of a parent".
The suit even claims Jonathan tried telling his teacher what was happening but was told the school "had a no tattle-tale policy" and he was punished.
Hunka believes the only hope her son has is now in the court system.
"How would you feel if you had to send your child to school everyday, everyday and you know. You know when you send him there's going to be an injury. There's going to be something that happens to your child everyday ."
The school district did not return any calls. The Roane County Executive refused to comment on the lawsuit.

A Pike County couple has filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging racial discrimination in the workplace.
John and Hope Mizell say it’s a case that would make Abraham Lincoln roll over in his grave.
The interracial couple moved to Pittsfield from North Carolina with their two children last February.
They came from a small rural community, similar to Pittsfield.
John was hired to manage Motel Pike.
Before Hope arrived to the area, John spoke with a manager at the Hardee’s restaurant about Hope’s six years of experience as a biscuit maker.
The manager told John the business needed a biscuit maker and to send her right over as soon as she arrived in Pittsfield.
What the manager didn’t know was that Hope was black, which Hope says changed everything.
Hope Mizell said, “So I’m thinking, “I’ll move up here. Lincoln! I mean come on, this is the town of Lincoln. I get here, and she looks me up and down, and I’m like, ‘okay, this might not be the best.’”
After Hope had been on the job for 3 hours, Hope claims her supervisor said, “I don’t like Martin Luther King. There’s blacks and there’s n’s and I wish they’d all go back to where they came from.”

Report Reveals Asian & Black Students In London Outnumber White Students
There are now more black and asian pupils in the British capital’s secondary school system than white children, according to a landmark report.
The study, which is the most definitive study of its kind, found 53 per cent of secondary pupils in London are now from an ethnic background, and warned of ‘very high’ levels of segregation.
It is the first time that the number of black and asian children has outstripped white pupils.
There has also been a huge rise in other towns and cities with large ethnic minorities, notably Slough, where non-white children now make up 64 per cent of the numbers, Leicester (58 per cent), Birmingham (52 per cent) and Luton (51 per cent). Manchester and Bradford are not far behind with 43 per cent.
It comes after David Levin, head of the fee-paying City of London School, claimed pupils are being ‘taught in ghettos’ as inner-city schools become increasingly divided along racial lines, and warned that London is ‘sleepwalking’ towards apartheid.

Update: UK Soccer Player Charged For Racially Abusing Opponent
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was charged Wednesday with racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
Evra, who is black, made the allegations last month after United’s 1-1 draw at Liverpool in the Premier League.
“It is alleged that Suarez used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behavior towards Manchester United’s Patrice Evra contrary to FA rules,” the English Football Assocation said in a statement. “It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or color and/or race of Patrice Evra.”
Suarez has denied the allegations and has been backed by his club throughout the investigation.

Mike Havenaar Racially Abused by Kashiwa Fansvia 有道ブログ

Disappointing news emerged from Chiba this Golden Week weekend as Kashiwa Reysol fans dragged the good name of the J. League through the mud.
It's being reported that the Japanese striker of Dutch parentage Mike Havenaar was subjected to various abuse, including kuso hakujin (lit: shit whiteman) during Kofu's match in Kashiwa on Friday. It might not sound much, but can be equated to someone shouting fucking Jap.
Who knows if Bosnar and Brosque were given the same abuse in March? Unlike Havenaar, neither were born and raised in Japan, so may not have picked up on it as the Kofu forward would have.
Either way, way to go Kashiwa fans; dragging Japanese football into the dark ages. The incident is being investigated by the J. League.

Muslim graduate ‘beaten by racist police in Birmingham’
A Muslim law graduate alleges he was attacked by two police officers in a ‘racially motivated’ attack.
Khurum Ali Khan, 23, claims he was held hostage for 90 minutes after he was pulled over in his car and given an £80 fine for possessing one cannabis joint.
He also says he ‘feared for his life’ when he was beaten by the male and female officers.
Mr Ali claims he was pulled over as he drove home and bundled into a police car where a female officer knelt on his neck.
He then says he was driven around the city at high speed before being dumped on a road out of sight from CCTV cameras and repeatedly kicked and punched.
Community leaders fear the attack could re-ignite racial tensions with police after claims officers failed to protect ethnic minorities during the summer riots.
